PROJECT OF THE WEEK

it's beginning to feel alot like Christmas...

Some of you know that Ive been laying low with the most terrible summer cold. There is something soothing about doing a repetitive crafty task when you have a fever and a hacking cough. It did give me the day to think about all the small peeps I'm lucky to have in my life this year.My two lovely neighbours, Audrey and Georgia always say hello at the gate. Kye and Alani my niece and nephew all the way over in WA. Toma my Japanese mini sumo pal. The beautiful Silas and Sunday who are as gorgeous as their parents.

Of course there is Clancy all the way over in London where it is minus 2. The excellent Maxwell already walking and talking his way through all the hml staff meetings. Last but not least there are my own lovelies Hope and Thom - the best things I ever made!

Next year two more will be added to the list as close friends embark on their own crazy adventure in 2010. I've decided that making these  is my favourite holiday tradition.Bloody Marys for breakfast on Christmas morning comes a close second.

Style resolutions 2010

I loved UK Vogue this months. A few good articles and plenty of beautiful images kept me busy reading and enjoying the issue.

20 New Year Shopping Resolutions was one of the reads that got my attention and I really want to share it with you, not only because some may find it useful, but also because I'd love to know your opinion about it. I am not going to post all 20 "new year rules", but will pick my favourites instead. If you want to know/read the rest, please let me know. All the pictures I use here are my own selection, not the ones used by Vogue. And yes, I am going to add little notes here and there because I am in a talkative mood today. Enjoy!

♥ SHOP FOR NUDE.
Update almost any colour for s/s 2010 (from dayglo lime to sky blue) by colour-blocking with this blushed neutral.

Nicole Farhi. Louise Goldin. Adam. Spring/Summer 2010

♥ STOCK UP ON SILKS AND MASTER THE ART OF TYING A HEADSCARF a la Marni.
It's an ideal way to add punch to grey winter knits (... or add a warm touch on a cold winter day, or just beautify yourself on a "bad hair day", newfashiontodayblog), and you will be a pro by the time you head to the beach come summer.

Marni. Spring/Summer 2010

This reminded me of Gloria Trillo from The Sopranos series (LOVE The Sopranos, by the way and funnily enough, we always watch the whole lot over Christmas) and how she wore a scarf and a hat on top of it. It looked so chic! Here's a picture from that episode, without a hat.

♥ WHITE SKIRT
Whether you play or not, get a white tennis skirt and you are half way to acquiring an Hermès s/s 2010 wardrobe; wear with a white-tipped long black cardigan.

Hermès. Spring/Summer 2010.

♥ SPEND ON JEWELLERY
It makes an old dress or t-shirt look new. Chunky bangles are a good place to start.

Bottega Veneta. Marni. Lanvin. Spring/Summer 2010

♥ BUY SHOES YOU CAN WALK IN
Note from newfashiontodayblog: I can say that there aren't that many style I can't walk in... and not, I am not trying to show off. But I thought it's a such a good reminder to many girls out there who'd rather kill themselves than buy better shoes or wear something they feel comfortable in. I truly believe that a woman in uncomfortable shoes never look sexy. Woman in heels - yes, woman in uncomfortable heels - no.
If heels aren't your thing yet, you can start your "training routine" by wearing wedges. My favourite and oh-so-comfortable ones are by Castañer. Or stick with classic and beautiful ballerinas and jewelled flat sandals.

Bottega Veneta. Chloe. Calvin Klein. Spring/Summer 2010.

♥ LEARN MORE HIGH IMPACT - LOW EFFORT TRICKS
Here is an example: buy a cropped tux jacket and wear it everywhere. Team it with your most shredded jeans and, somehow, you will still look smarter that everyone else.
Note to myself: I MUST find my perfect blazer in 2010. I really really really need one.

♥ PROMISE TO LOOK AFTER A WHITE SHIRT THIS SEASON
See it as your new best friend. Start over with a new one, vow to always wash it in a biological washing powder, add glo-white and spray lightly with starch before ironing. Or get it dry-cleaned.

Vogue Paris 2004

♥ DON'T ADD YET ANOTHER LITTLE BLACK DRESS TO YOUR BURGEONING COLLECTION
Break the habit and purchase a pastel-coloured confection.

Collette Dinnigan. Valentino. Luella.

Gianfranco Ferré. Donna Karan. Burberry Prorsum. Spring/Summer 2010

SIDE PROJECT OF THE WEEK

tagged

I've set aside a few hours today to make my annual kids Christmas decorations. There are 11 kids this year so it is quite an endeavour. I got a little side tracked this morning. It took me quite a few goes with the circle cutter to get the right size sticker for the baubles. I couldn't throw out the rejects so I thought I'd whip up some tags

I had to add glitter of course, which seems to coat the house from top to bottom. Luckily I already have a few presents to wrap. 9 days to go, can you believe it?

I'll show you the baubles tomorrow. Better get back to work!

RUMBLE REDUX

pop up shop

Well the Jumble is over for another year and what a wild rumpus it was! It's been a while since we had a joint project (the BOOK was momentous enough to keep us busy most of 09). So the invitation from Pene Durston of Cottage Industry fame to participate in her studio sale was too good to pass up.

It meant we had a whole day sans kids to just hang out with some great people (hi Dell, Irene, Leah!), eat some excellent Babka danishes and make grand plans for 2010. We also managed to pay off our Yeah Yeah Yeahs tix, buy some sushi and spend way too much in other corners of the studio. Beck basically got her work wardrobe sorted via the sales racks. I'm in big trouble for not stocking up on silk scarves for the cravat lovin intern (any left Pen?)

We were quite chuffed with how our table looked. Rather splendid thanks to Becks brilliant cardboard garlands and my posies of paper flowers. What a lovely way to finish what has been a crazy crazy year.
Thanks for the opportunity Miss Pen Pen, we hope you have us back for the next Rumble in the Jumble!

SELL OUT OF THE WEEK

OK peeps. You have until 7pm to get your $40 ticket to the Seventh Gallery sale that's on tonight. We think this is possibly one of the funniest, funnest and coolest ways for a little artist run space to raise some much needed cashola and for punters to get that last minute totally unique gift for their beloveds.

So there are 100 artworks, 100 tickets. When the bell sounds punters will have to stampede, drinks in hand, to slap their sticker (ooo eerr) on their artwork of choice. Best $40 you'll spend this month!

I'm hoping that artist Adrian Conti will have something from this series tucked in the farthest corner of the gallery- I like a challenge!I suspect it's going to be like the running of the bulls...

Beauty

I found myself staring at this beautiful photo from Vogue China and it felt as if the time stopped as if giving me a chance to enjoy this moment as long as possible. So I just wanted to share it with you...

Have a wonderful day!

Warm cloud of soft gorgeousness

Everyone has an opinion about the fur. Frankly, since I moved countries the subject became almost painful to discuss. But you know what? I love fur coats. Not as an unnecessary luxury, but more something I always had since I was a little girl.

I grew up in a country where it would be very difficult to get through a cold winter without a warm fur coat. Trust me, fakes, as beautiful as some can be, simply wouldn't work. Not many people had cars and not many could afford a taxi. Those were luxuries. Fur has always been an essential item of clothing.

All women in my family wore furs. Every time my mum returned home I loved hiding my face in that wonderful fur to inhale a very special fragrance, a beautiful mixture of cold winter air, mum's French perfume and fur.

Now I live in England where I don't really need a fur coat. Moreover, wearing one could be quite controversial. Although I tried to explain it to my mum and dad, they still wanted to give me a gorgeous mink as a gift. Yes, I don't wear it and yes, it is my treasure because it's from my parents and they put their heart, soul and loving thoughts into this present.

But enough about me. Here I present you with a beautiful selection of furs and some fashion editorials. Personally, I love traditional furs and colours, with brown mink and silver fox being my absolute favourite, but I must admit, those white and colourful creations do look beautiful, too.

What are your thoughts on fur? Love it? Hate it?
