Style resolutions 2010

I loved UK Vogue this months. A few good articles and plenty of beautiful images kept me busy reading and enjoying the issue.

20 New Year Shopping Resolutions was one of the reads that got my attention and I really want to share it with you, not only because some may find it useful, but also because I'd love to know your opinion about it. I am not going to post all 20 "new year rules", but will pick my favourites instead. If you want to know/read the rest, please let me know. All the pictures I use here are my own selection, not the ones used by Vogue. And yes, I am going to add little notes here and there because I am in a talkative mood today. Enjoy!

♥ STOCK UP ON SILKS AND MASTER THE ART OF TYING A HEADSCARF a la Marni.
It's an ideal way to add punch to grey winter knits (... or add a warm touch on a cold winter day, or just beautify yourself on a "bad hair day", newfashiontodayblog), and you will be a pro by the time you head to the beach come summer.

This reminded me of Gloria Trillo from The Sopranos series (LOVE The Sopranos, by the way and funnily enough, we always watch the whole lot over Christmas) and how she wore a scarf and a hat on top of it. It looked so chic! Here's a picture from that episode, without a hat.

♥ WHITE SKIRT
Whether you play or not, get a white tennis skirt and you are half way to acquiring an Hermès s/s 2010 wardrobe; wear with a white-tipped long black cardigan.

It makes an old dress or t-shirt look new. Chunky bangles are a good place to start.

♥ BUY SHOES YOU CAN WALK IN
Note from newfashiontodayblog: I can say that there aren't that many style I can't walk in... and not, I am not trying to show off. But I thought it's a such a good reminder to many girls out there who'd rather kill themselves than buy better shoes or wear something they feel comfortable in. I truly believe that a woman in uncomfortable shoes never look sexy. Woman in heels - yes, woman in uncomfortable heels - no.
If heels aren't your thing yet, you can start your "training routine" by wearing wedges. My favourite and oh-so-comfortable ones are by Castañer. Or stick with classic and beautiful ballerinas and jewelled flat sandals.

♥ LEARN MORE HIGH IMPACT - LOW EFFORT TRICKS
Here is an example: buy a cropped tux jacket and wear it everywhere. Team it with your most shredded jeans and, somehow, you will still look smarter that everyone else.
Note to myself: I MUST find my perfect blazer in 2010. I really really really need one.

♥ PROMISE TO LOOK AFTER A WHITE SHIRT THIS SEASON
See it as your new best friend. Start over with a new one, vow to always wash it in a biological washing powder, add glo-white and spray lightly with starch before ironing. Or get it dry-cleaned.

Break the habit and purchase a pastel-coloured confection.

Paris fashion week: treats and temptations

Desserts are always a very special treat. No matter how delicious the entire meal is I will always make sure I have a room for dessert. I look forward to my special sweet moments and truly enjoy them. Paris fashion week is also a kind of dessert for me. It's tempting, beautiful and simply irresistible. It is the final accord in a symphony of fashion. It's worth waiting and tuning to because this is where the flavour finally develops, all the notes sound in perfect harmony and all the missing pieces find their place in our soul and, for the lucky ones, wardrobes.

Milan fashion week: the incredibles

When fashion comes to Milan I start developing strong cravings for beautiful clothes and accessories hence cannot quite hold myself and stick with just one collection. So this time I picked four... and the shoes... and two bags. Once I placed Marni bracelets on top of everything else, my heart felt satisfied. So here are my picks - clothes that I love and dream of wearing.

London fashion week: Burberry Prorsum

Christopher Bailey made me proud of being British. His Spring/Summer 2010 collection was such a magnificent delight of soft dreamy marshmallow pastels, glamour, gorgeousness, youth and freshness that I had an urge of hugging my TV (since I couldn't give a hug to Mr. Bailey himself). The dresses created of draped tulle and silks were a pure temptation, the trench coats with their sculpted draping sleeve details could be worn as an evening dress and the shoes made of draped soft leather caused a craving in me. I adored a beautiful combination of delicate fabrics of the dresses and leather belts that added a modern touch, a touch of chic safari trend, the buttery softness of bags, the amber bracelets, the natural make-up. I loved EVERYTHING.

It was truly the best collection shown this week. I am so glad this time Mr. Bailey decided to show it in England and not Milan or New York. For me, it was a jewel in the crown of British fashion that's been missing for ages.

New York fashion week: the most wonderful of them all

After a week of excitement and daily visits to style.com, looking, watching, searching, mentally trying things on and falling in love I gave my heart and soul (and frankly, would happily give my body, too) to Donna Karan's gorgeousness. Of course, there were many other beautiful collections, but I only have one heart.

The collection was dreamy. The colours reminded me of the autumn skies and sea just as you see it in England, corals and pastel dewy morning sunrise. The hats designed by Mr. Jones, looked like clouds (wouldn't be wonderful to wear a cloud on your head!). The dresses looked weightless and their beautiful folds softly wrapped around the body to create a feminine silhouette. To me, it was a perfect example of endlessly stunning simplicity that would never look out of place, not now, not in a million light years... never.

I would also like to mention that these hats were created by my dearest wonderful Anya who is currently doing an apprenticeship with Mr. Jones in London. She is so talented, every time I see her works I am left speechless and proud. I miss you terribly, moya horoshaya.
