Guest post: Hidden treasures

Clipboard06

For a woman, lingerie is more than a mere undergarment. Elegant, sexy, good-fitting and flattering, lingerie is the hidden trove of intimate luxury that makes every woman, no matter her size and shape, feel confident and comfortable in her own skin.

A woman’s lingerie is the delicate article of clothing that frames and conceals her most intimate body parts. It is like the gift wrapping on the body, framing and pampering the natural female anatomy, all of its curvature and suppleness.

Style and Shape

Essential lingerie pieces in a woman’s wardrobe are the base to a good outfit and provide two functions: enhancement and mood. These are accomplished through the shape and style of the garment. The cut, shape, coverage and fabric of the lingerie nips, tucks, flatters, controls, lifts, supports and subtly enhances her assets to make her look her very best in outerwear. The style of the lingerie reflects and adds confidence, mood and character to the woman who wears it.

No wardrobe should be missing these lingerie basics:

A high quality sexy bra matching bra and panty set. This is an indulgence for every woman and is worn for an extra boost. Choose the bra shape your chest needs: support, lifting, push up, add a cup, and match it with a set of bottoms that compliments your lower half: brief, thong, bikini, boy cut, or g string.

A seamless bra and panty - when you can’t show lines through your t-shirts or skirts, opt for the seamless set. Perfect for general lounging and casual wear, seamless styles don’t show under tight fitting shirts or delicate materials.

The convertible bra - the convertible bra is even better than the strapless variety. You can wear the straps dozens of different ways to fit virtually any top or dress you have. Changing the straps still guarantees lift and support, something not always promised with the standard convertible bra.

Body Shaping bodysuit - this secret weapon helps create a perfect shape instantly. Every woman needs a bodyshaping bodysuit for her less than perfect days. The right bodyshaper will nip and tuck, and sculpt your silhouette. A bodyshaper is not only for slimming purposes, but can add curves and shape if you need it – it also looks sensational and untraceable under a slinky dress.

A corset or bustier - weapons of mass seduction, they double as casual evening outerwear and look enviably sensual as lingerie when paired with a garter belt. Be sure to choose a fitted but not too rigid style for instant sexiness.

Fun Styles

Lingerie comes in all sorts of fun fabrics, styles, colours and prints and the choices are as infinite as the number of women who wear them. A feminine woman may love florals, bows and roses in pastels, pinks and lilacs. A dominant, confident woman might be drawn to blacks and purples, and mesh or sheer fabrics. A vixeny woman may choose cashmere or shiny satin panties and stockings to match in ruby red or leopard print. Pick lingerie that suits the woman who you are and the attitude you want to convey.

Summer vs Winter

Lingerie requires a change from season to season. Winter is all about warmth, however women don’t necessarily need to sacrifice sexiness for the season. Choose embroidery, knits, heavier seasonless cottons, lycra and silk, which show warmth in the winter, and in darker autumn jewel tones and blacks. Winter is also the season of tight-busted corsets. Summer is all about easy, breezy coolness, so opt for lighter cottons, mesh, satin, thin silks, and laces in this season. Summer is also time for sleek teddies, tropical shades, pastels and vibrant prints.

Coffee, dates and shoes

On a rainy morning, early as always, I was sitting in front of my laptop enjoying a cup of coffee, a few dates (I guess, you thought it was about romance, but at this point it's just delicious something I like to eat) and this story. It was then when I saw a pair of beautiful Alejandro Ingelmo shoes. I must confess that I haven't really heard of him before, so I decided to do my little research as it would be silly not to since the almighty google is out there 24/7.

Google worked. It took me to Browns website, which I've intentionally ignored for the last few months as it's full of temptations for which I wasn't mentally or financially ready at this time of my life. Yes, I did find the shoes, but then I also noticed another pair of shoes I saw a few months ago and dismissed because of their price tag. The pumps were on sale.

Suddenly my brain was working on a different emotionally powered level. MY SHOES were there and my size was available. I had to have them because for me they were pure perfection. The colour would go well with my autumn bag and belts, the black would create a perfect look with a dress that's almost ancient now (better call it vintage, I suppose), but loved and cherished, so still in my wardrobe. I also dreamed of creating this special autumn look of black belted coat, wide classic trousers with rolled hems and tan coloured gloves to match the shoes... Oh, I let my imagination run wild... Then it was time to get back to reality. Unfortunately, even the reality craved the platforms.

At the end I did two things: I spent a day thinking and I asked my husband if it would be ok to buy a pair of shoes (and to be fair, I haven't bought any for a while). As the day went by the thought of having Ginas became stronger and, as a sweet cherry on a cupcake, S said "yes".

I made a cup of calming mint tea and placed my order, which I just received. They are perfect. I absolutely adore my new pumps and can honestly say that apart from my wedding shoes, these are the best ones I've ever had. Yes, the heel is high, but they are incredibly comfortable. I think I could run in them if I had to. Finally, the missing piece of my wardrobe jigsaw is found and I am going to enjoy every moment of it.

Beautiful clothes. Beautiful prices.

This was a very early morning for me. My puppy decided to get up at the crack of dawn (it's 5 am for you and I) and felt like playing. So we played, went outside, had our breakfasts and he got back to bed. Lucky little thing. For me, it was a different story. I decided to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet, made myself a cup of green tea, got a piece of very dark chocolate and turned on my computer. Actually, honestly speaking, I love early mornings. It's lovely to sit in a kitchen, with a window open and feel first sun rays on your face. Plus, today it was a great time to do a bit of on-line shopping.

French Connection was my first choice. I just received a news letter from them saying Further reductions: Now up to 75% off in the French Connection summer sale!. Of course, I had to have a look!

I like French Connection. I like the quality of their stuff, the fabrics, the stitching. I am very picky when it comes to clothes. I cannot stand anything synthetic, am mentally allergic to polyester and really do like to check the inside of every garment to make sure that stitching is perfect (or close to perfect, anyway). French Connection often ticks all the boxes and I feel attractive in their clothes, so I can get tempted, especially during the sale season (who wouldn't?) Saving some money on clothes also gives me a chance to buy really, really nice shoes and lingerie (two little luxuries I am sinfully addicted to).

My picks so far included this gorgeous, gorgeous, simply gorgeous dress, which I have been admiring for a while. It reminds me of an Alexis Mabille dress from his Fall 2009 Haute Couture show.

This very cute dress for hot summer days and for walks with my doggy.

This belt (it's available in black and tan and I still cannot make up my mind, which one to pick)

And this dress. Although it is not on sale, but I just have to mention it because it's so me and I adore it.

So, what do you think? Which one is your favourite?

Designer flip flops, anyone?

Flip flops.... Probably the simplest footwear that literally brings you down to earth. You don't spend time looking for a perfect pair - you just pick the one that matches your bikini and you're done.
Now it looks like flip flops can become a new fashion trend thanks to the Selfridges new in-store Havanas shop where you can create your own unique pair. Prices start from £20 with over 100 different colours, straps, crystals and even diamonds! How fabulous is that?!
Even celebrities and designers were tempted to put their imagination and DIY skills into practice and created
several cute flip flop designs, which will be auctioned on 15 June at a charity auction to raise money for CLIC Sargent that provides supports to young cancer survivors. Here are some of my favourites and although I think Naomi didn't quite grasp the essence of a flip-flop, she created a design that could be called a "high fashion flip-flop".

Ebay and dreams

I've had this dream for about 7 years. Well, I guess, since I moved countries. Before you start wondering what it is, I am going to say that it's a simple dream that could make me feel happier and have another sunshine inside (my husband is my sunshine number one). Ok, it's a puppy (Anna, please don't hate me, I know how much you want one). As simple as that.

I've always had dogs, but couldn't get one here because we either rented or lived in a flat and have been working long hours away from home. So as you can imagine it wouldn't be fair to leave my little baby alone.

But good things happen to those who wait because finally we moved and I've changed jobs and now work from home most of the time doing something I absolutely adore (also makes me happy) and the most important thing is that I can have a dog now.

I've been looking for one for ages, since we found out that we could move. It took time and lots of thinking and planning and looking around, but a few days ago I found HIM (sorry, I don't do "it" thing when it comes to dogs). He is only a couple of weeks old (hence, no photos here yet) and can hardly see or walk, but he is the most adorable little thing in the world.

However, the truth is that the most adorable and wanted things cost a small fortune. So I've decided to get some cash by selling a few of my beloved fashion pieces on ebay. I can't say it was easy, but at the same time I am feeling so happy and excited at the moment, I can't care less about how many pair of shoes or what kind of dresses I have in my wardrobe as long as it's not empty. I kept my most beloved items and yes, my Mulberry and Fendi B are staying with me. Not only because I love them, but also because they are presents from my husband, so they are more than just special to me. Somewhere inside I also feel that buying certain things made me feel temporarily happy and helped to fill the void of not having something I truly wanted. Funny, isn't it?

So this summer I am turning into a very happy lady with a very minimalistic (Tim Gunn would be proud of me) wardrobe and the most beautiful little puppy.

I still love fashion and clothes and nothing will ever stop me from looking, falling in love, shopping, trying, keeping and wearing, but it will be different, I know. And oh, yes, I will need more of those ballerinas now - got to walk my baby at least twice a day after all and heels just won't do.

Spring temptations

And here I am again. With a cup of mint tea and a new copy of Red Direct catalogue I've got in the post yesterday. I must admit, I am not the first one if a cue when it comes to wearing bijoux-type accessories, but sometimes things look so beautiful I can be tempted. Just like this time. A few pieces really caught my attention and I feel that I keep thinking about them, which is not a good sign as it usually means that sooner or later one of those cuties will be mine.
